Preparations for 12th South Asian Games underway

SAFF ChampionshipKathmandu / January 15: Preparations for the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) to be held from coming Feb 5 in Guwahati and Shillong of India have begun.

Accordingly, the government of India has formed the tournament organising committee under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Youth and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal and Co-chairmanship of Chairperson of Indian Olympic Committee N Ramchandranan, according to a statement issued by the Embassy of India here Friday. The government has also set up a Secretariat for the same.

A total of 228 categories in 23 genre of sports will be contested in the mega event involving all eight member states. Likewise, 1,505 men and 1,167 women athletes will compete for the 228 gold, 228 silver and 308 bronze medals on offer.

Nepal is being represented by 211 men and 187 women athletes competing in athletics, basketball, volleyball, swimming, wrestling, kabbadi, badminton, boxing, judo among others. RSS
