Dayahang to make a theatrical comeback

dayahangKathmandu / January 15: Actor Dayahang Rai, who, of late, has traded his craft in the movie industry will return to his roots in theatre with the new play Ra Mailo. The play, a Nepali adaptation of 20th century French play Episode In The Life Of An Author, penned by Jean Anouilh, will be staged at the Mandala Theatre Nepal, starting January 16. A standout representative of absurdist farce theatre, the play has been adapted to Nepali and directed by Somnath Khanal.

The play, as its title indicates, tells the story of an author taking on the everyday absurdities that abound him.

“The play, when adapted into Nepali, happened to be slightly different than the original. But then, what I have done is adaptation and contexualisation, not absolute translation. The play, however, stays true to the theme of the original,” said director Khanal.

The play also marks as a comeback for actors like Rajan Khatiwada, Buddhi Tamang, and Bijaya Baral, who, of late, had showcased their craft in the movie industry. Besides, the play also has in crew actors such as Sirjana Subba, Srijana Adhikari, Pashupati Rai, Samyog Guragain and Mishree Thapa, among others.

The play will be on at Mandala, starting January 16, and continues through February 11. (Source: The Kathmandu Post Daily)
