Tiger census begins at Shuklaphanta
Bhimduttanagar / January 28: The census of world’s rare wildlife, tiger, has begun at Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve on Wednesday.
According to the Shuklaphana Wildlife Reserve Office, Majhagaun, this year too the tiger counting has started through camera trapping technology.
“We have floated a plan to complete the tiger census within a month by dividing the reserve area into different groups” Chief Conservation Officer at Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve, Bed Kumar Dhakal.
He informed that a section of trained local employees of the Reserve has reached out to the field for tiger counting. At least 24 employees will be deputed for the task, he informed, adding the counting will be carried out with the help of elephant and technology.
The census has been put on top priority in potential areas of the Reserve – which is stretched over 305 square kilometers, the Reserve Office stated.
The tiger counting has been continuously undertaken in the Reserve for the past eight years. Some 17 tigers were found in last year’s census, the Office informed.
The Nepal Army’s Bhawani Box Battalion, Majagaun Barrack and Kanchanpur District Forest Office are also taking part in the census. RSS
