PM Oli opens CAN Info-Tech 2016, says IT indispensible for speedy development

Can Info TechKathmandu / January 29: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that use of information technology was indispensible for the speedy development of the country.

In an inaugural session of the 22nd edition of ‘Subisu CAN Info-Tech 2016’ organised by the Federation of Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) here today, Prime Minister Oli said that now it was necessary to modernize the country and the role of IT was important for the same.

Stating the development could be made more advanced and systematic on the basis of new knowledge and skill achieved in the world, he said the speed of our development depends on the use of new technology.

The Prime Minister also stressed the government services would be delivered as per the concept of e-governance and the government would use IT keeping it in the priority.

On a different note, he argued that the border blockade would be lifted soon, saying although there was no disruption at southern border check points, there was no smooth supply of goods via the check points.

Similarly, President of CAN Federation, Engineer Binod Dhakal, said the dream of e-Nepal would not be fulfilled until access of IT was extended to rural areas.

Chairman of the Subisu Cablenet Pvt. Ltd, Sudhir Parajuli, urged the government to enlist the internet service in the list of essential services keeping the importance and necessity of internet service in mind while General secretary of the CAN Federation, Bishwo Balami, said that such expo would help develop and expand IT in the country.

Present on the occasion were Minister for Information and Communications, Sherdhan Rai, Minister for Science and Technology, Shivalal Thapa, Director General at the Department of Information Technology, Birendra Mishra, President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Pashupati Murarka, among others.

The Info-Tech expo would run till February 3 at Bhrikutimandap where Subisu Cablenet is the main sponsor and Huawei the co-sponsor.

A total of 180 stalls related IT are in the expo. CAN has been organising such expo every year in the Capital since 1992. RSS
