Korea returnees eligible to go again

Labor, Foreign EmploymentKathmandu / February 13: There is an increasing trend of Nepali migrants, who have gone to South Korea under the South Korean Employment Permit System (EPS), staying back illegally in the country even after the end of their job contract.

Misconception among returnee migrants after completing their job contract terms that they cannot go to Korea again is reportedly a contributing factor for many to do so.

However, the Korean Employment System invites applications for such returnee migrants for special Korean language test in every three months to select them to seek job opportunities in South Korea again.

There is also a provision that such returnee migrants can go to South Korea again through labour agreement sent directly by the former employer in South Korea, even without sitting for a Korean language test.

EPS Korea section director Dilliram Bastola said that more than 2,000 returnee migrants have gone to South Korea again after being selected from the special language test so far, while 900 more have flown to the country through labour agreement sent directly by former employer in South Korea.

He, however, said that some migrants are living in South Korea illegally after expiring their employment contract term in lack of awareness. According to available data, around 600 such migrant workers are living illegally in South Korea. RSS
