Elephantiasis in over two per cent population in Bhojpur

elephantiasisBhojpur / March 9: Around 2.5 per cent of total population of Bhojpur district has been found with the infection of elephantiasis, according to the Bhojpur District Public Health Office.

It was shared at an interaction organized with journalists on Tuesday to impart information to prevent elephantiasis.

The elephantiasis epidemic has not come under control in Bhojpur as expected though sixth rounds of nationwide interventions of the anti-filarial campaign were already rolled out during past five years.

Chief of District Public Health Office Dr Nawal Koshor Jha said the elephantiasis infection was detected in 40 per cent of the total population based on the samples collected in Taxar and Jarayotar VDC of the district in the first year.

The District Health Office shared the medicines would be distributed to the needy as part of the elephantiasis prevention measure in 567 centres from March 12-14. Total 435 health workers and 1,103 women health volunteers are to be deputed in the district for distributing drugs. RSS
