SC issues interim order to JC not to go with Speaker’s response

Supreme CourtKathmandu, March 14: The Supreme Court on Monday issued an interim order in the name of the Judicial Council, directing it not to implement the letter sent by the Speaker regarding the recommendation for the appointment of judges at the apex court.

Earlier Speaker Onsari Gharti sent back the letter received from the Judicial Council for the mandatory parliamentary hearing of 11 judges nominated for the appointment at the SC.

A single bench of Judge Jagadish Sharma Poudel today issued a verdict to that end.

The Court directed the JC to make arrangements for conducting the parliamentary hearing of the judges recommended for appointment.

Advocate and Consumers’ Rights Protection Forum Chair Jyoti Baniya on March 11 had filed a writ at the Court, demanding initiation of process for holding parliamentary hearing of the judges recommended.

The writ named the Legislature-Parliament, Office of the President and the Council of Ministers as defendant. RSS
