SAARC Standing Committee meeting concludes

SAARC meetingPokhara / March 16: The meeting of the SAARC Standing Committee held ahead of the 37th session of the SAARC ministerial-level meeting concluded Wednesday here by agreeing on the agenda of the ministerial-level meeting to be held on Thursday.

The SAARC Standing Committee comprising the foreign affairs secretaries from all the SAARC member countries chaired by Nepal’s Foreign Affairs Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi prepared 32 different agenda for deliberations in the ministerial-level meeting.

Bairagi said that discussions were held regarding the implementation of the decisions made in the past, completing the SAARC activities on time and other issues too.

He added that proposal has been made to conduct the SAARC Summit in November in every two years but the date can be fixed by the host country by consulting with other member states.

It is said that discussions were held on climate change, environment conservation, natural disaster, health, bio-energy, social development and information technology.

Foreign affairs ministers from all the SAARC member states have arrived in Pokhara to attend the ministerial-level meeting. RSS
