Implement constitution to end discrimination: NC president Deuba

Sher Bahadur DeuwaKathmandu / March 21: Nepali Congress President, Sher Bahadur Deuba, today expressed the belief that all forms of discrimination would end with the implementation of the new constitution.

Speaking at a programme held on the occasion of the 51st International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination organized jointly by the National Dalit Commission and Dalit Civil Society among others, Deuba said the country would embark on a path of economic progress with the implementation of the new constitution.

“The constitution must be implemented as soon as possible to end the discrimination over Dalits, women, Muslim, indigenous nationalities, and everyone’s role is equally important,” Deuba said.

He was of the opinion that provisions for reservations for equal participation of the representatives of the Dalit community was arranged for in each state organ.

The Dalit communities have been demanding a public holiday on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

On the occasion, Nepali Congress Central member and lawmaker, Jivan Pariyar, said the Dalit community needed the constitution more as compared to other communities therefore it should lead the constitution’s implementation.

UCPN (Maoist) leader Bishwo Bhakta Dulal, lawmakers Daljeet Shripali and Jitu Gautam called for strict adherence to and implementation of laws to end widespread caste-based discrimination. RSS
