Consumption of tobacco-related products claiming 50 lives everyday

Tobacco goodsChitwan / March 25: Everyday around 50 people lose their lives in the country due to consumption of tobacco-related products, shows a data.

The data was made public at an interaction ‘Control and regulation of tobacco-related products’ organised by the Secretariat of the Health Tax Fund under the Ministry of Health at Sauraha in Chitwan today.

According to the Ministry, some 50 per cent people of the total population of the country consumed tobacco-related products and 17,000-18,000 people die due to various diseases caused due to the consumption of tobacco-related products like cancer every year.

On the occasion, Secretary at the Ministry, Shanta Bahadur Shrestha, said that the mortality rate due to the consumption of tobacco-related products is 62 per cent in the country.

Similarly, President of the Women, Children and Social Welfare Committee under the Legislature-Parliament, Ranju Kumari Jha, also expressed the view. RSS
