Dayaram Pariyar Memorial Award to Charimaya, Shashi

NHRCKathmandu / March 28: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) decided to present this year’s Daya Ram Pariyar Human Rights Memorial Award to rights activists Charimaya Tamang and journalist Shyam Sundar Shashi.

This was announced amidst a programme organised by the NHRC commemorating Pariyar’s 10th memorial day. The award will be presented on coming May 26, the establishment day of the national human rights body, according to NHRC Spokesperson Mohana Ansari.

Dayaram Souvenior’ published in the commemoration of the 10th memorial day of Pariyar was launched by NHRC Chair Anup Raj Sharma on the occasion. “The NHRC is always determined to fight against impunity,” he said.

It has been five years that the NHRC established the annual award in honour of human rights defender Pariyar.

Human rights defender Pariyar had been killed in police firing in Janakpur during the 2006 People’s Movement in the country.

The NHRC has already recommended the government for action against the then Police Inspector Prakash Raj Sharma and his team guilty in the killing of Pariyar. RSS
