Term to complete reconstruction works will be extended by a year: PM Oli

Chitwan / March 30: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the time to complete the reconstruction works, which were obstructed due to earthquake and border blockade, would be extended for one year.

Addressing the inaugural session of the 18th annual general meeting and silver jubilee of the Federation of Contractor’s Association of Nepal at Ratnanagar in Chitwan district today, Prime Minister Oli assured for extending time by one year as per the demand of contractors.

He urged contractors to complete the construction task as soon as possible considering one year time as maximum time, saying nobody can do anything beyond the situation of control.

Laying emphasis on the need of giving special priority to quality construction, PM Oli said, “Government wants construction task in cheap price, but does not compromise in quality.”

He said, “People say that the government did not carry out work in speedy manner. Let’s imagine what time it will take to prepare the design of 800,000 houses. But we should not make delay in this regard”, saying the earthquake has damaged 800,000 houses.

He further said that the April 25 earthquake has damaged important infrastructures like Dharahara and urged all to support the campaign, ‘I will construct my Dharahara myself’, adding we ourselves should construct our Dharahara.

Similarly, Prime Minister Oli added that the government was carrying out the plan to end the power cuts by a year and providing the power as per the demand of the people within two years. He said that the East-West Highway would be upgraded in six-lane soon.

He claimed that the nation would be independent in food production and the two-lane Kerung-Kathmandu road section and railway from Kathmandu-Pokhara-Lumbini would be constructed soon.

Similarly, he added that the Pokhara Airport and Lumbini Airport would be upgraded soon. He added that the government was planning to open science and technology colleges urging locals to submit proposals if were willing for the same.

PM Oli added that Tarai unrest was resolved and the bilateral ties with both neighbouring were strengthening after he resumed the post.

He added that the government was committed to glorify the national sovereignty and independent image of the nation.

PM Oli further said that the ties with India was normalizing and the nation had recently signed an agreement on transit rights with China adding that the bilateral relations with it had reached in a new chapter. He added that the reconstruction projects would be expedited.

On the occasion, he unveiled the logo of Silver Jubilee and released the souvenir. Similarly, DPM Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar would be the chief guest for the next session of the programme. Over 2,200 delegates and observers would attend the programme. RSS
