Sri Lanka wins women basketball tournament title

BasketballKathmandu / April 2: Sri Lanka has won the title of First South Asian Women Basketball Tournament when the host country Nepal finished a first runner-up in the final match held at Tripureshwor-based National Sports Council’s covered hall today.

Sri Lanka clinched the title defeating the host with a margin of 26 points. A total of five countries in the region took part in the competition in which Maldives is returning home with a bronze, followed by Bhutan and Bangladesh, respectively.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Bhim Rawal, Nepal Olympic Committee Chair Jeevan Ram Shrestha, NSC member-secretary Keshab Kumar Bista were at Tripureshwor to award the winning teams.

Though the tournament has no cash prize, Nepal Basketball Association is to hounour the host team with a cash prize of Rs 150,000 as an incentive, the Association said. RSS
