River bank farming paying farmers well

riverbed farmingMorang / April 9: Chhedan Lal Mandal of Rangeli Municipality-9 of Morang is making a good income from the river bank farming.

Thirty-five year Mandal who started vegetable farming on the bank of Chisang River is now happy for the return of his hardship. He invested Rs 200,000 to start vegetable farming on sandy soil of the Chisang river bank and earned Rs 600,000 last year. He is growing vegetables and fruits like cucumber, bitter gourd, pumpkin, bottle gourd and watermelon in two bigha of sandy soil. We can make good earnings from the river bank farming, if we have skills and will for so, he said.

Farmers here are gradually getting attracted to river bank farming upon seeing its good results. Bunilal Mandal, 28, Dhiraj Mandal,30 and Ram Khilan Mandal, 28, of Rangeli-9 are those farmers who have been making a good income from the vegetable farming conducted on the bank of Chisang River.

Likewise, 200 farmers of Mahadev VDC in the district are divided into 14 groups and engaged on a large scale commercial farming on the bank of Bakraha River , said a famer Ramesh Tajpuriya. Each group is earning million of rupees yearly. RSS
