Foreign tourists responsible for child sexual exploitation

cwin_logo_colourKathmandu / June 12: Foreign tourists visiting Nepal too have been found to be the reason for child sexual exploitation in Nepal.

This was revealed in a report ‘world voyage and child sexual exploitation in tourism’ released here today jointly by CWIN Nepal, Shakti Samuha and Maiti Nepal.

Speaking at the programme, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ananda Prasad Pokharel said the government was committed to introducing a code of conduct in the tourism sector in order to stop sexual exploitation of children.

Chairperson of Shakti Samuha Charimaya Tamang said though not observed directly tourists are also responsible for child sexual exploitation in the country.

CWIN Chair Madhav Pradhan said children being taken from one location to another in the name of ‘talent shows’ has also been found to have led to their sexual exploitation.

Shedding light on the report, Executive Director of CWIN Sumnima Tuladhar said internet and mobile telephone has also been misused to sexually exploit children while Director of Nepal Telecommunications Authority said a cyber security policy should be enforced to stop child abuse. RSS
