Win of every Nepali woman, says Ms Rana

Bandana RanaKathmandu / June 28: Women rights activist Bandana Rana has said that her election to the UN CEDAW Committee was a win of every Nepali woman.

Speaking at a felicitation programme organized by Sancharika Samuha Nepal here Tuesday, she said that the election would help the work of gender equality and women’s empowerment in Nepal too. Rana said her presence in the Committee would be utilized to highlight the progress made in the field of women’s rights in Nepal as well as internalizing the local level incidents.

Rana was among the 11 persons elected to the United National Convention on Elimination of All forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) Committee in the election held last June 21. This is the first time that Nepal has been elected to the committee. She will be in the committee from 2017 to 2020. RSS
