Dant ko Dob set for a reboot

01072016103222Sailendra-Kumar-Malla-Khage-1000x0Kathmandu / July 02: The Khagendra Lamichhane directorial Dant ko Dob is set to be staged at the Mandala Theatre, in Anamnagar, starting July 1. Prior to this, the play was staged at the Theatre Village, in Lazimpat, in February.

“Since Theatre Village, where the play saw a short staging last February, is no longer in operation, we are doing re-up staging of the play at Mandala…We were at first set to stage the play for a month, but we could only run it for 15 days; due to which, there were still many audiences who could not get to see the play; we realised we should go for a re-up,” Lamichhane told the Post.

Dant ko Dob, written by Lamichhane himself, is set in a rural Nepali village and revolves around the love-hate relationship between two kids—Loknath (Anoj Pandey) and Hariprasad (Prakash Dahal)—who struggle to impose their influence over each other. In doing so,the play evokes societal malpractices still prevalent in rural Nepal, while capturing their rustic day-to-day life. Along with Pandey and Dahal, the play features actors Binita Thapa Magar, Rajesh Sitaula, Kamal Devkota, Shishir Siwakoti, Rohit Poudel, and Renuka Karki, among others.

“The play is based on my childhood memory—of a friendship that had left an lasting mark on me; of a friendship that endured. Or rather, a friendship that lies lurking beneath the enmity,” said Lamichhane about the themes the play evokes.

Started from July 1, the play will be on at Mandala every day (except for Mondays) till July 17. Source: The Kathmandu Post
