Nepal Promotional Programme in Geneva

PokharaKathmandu / July 4: The Permanent Mission of Nepal to the UN and other international organizations, Geneva organized a Nepal promotional programme ‘Mountains: Connecting Cultures and Peoples’ in Bern city, said a press release issued by the Permanent Mission.

The programme was organized last Saturday in cooperation with Non Resident Nepalis’ Association Switzerland Chapter focusing the emotional relations among the public level between Nepal and Switzerland having similar Himalayan geography and the role of Himalays to strengthen bilateral relations.

The programme having former Chancellor of Switzerland and current Chairman of Swiss Red Cross Dr Annemarie Huber-Hortz and globally acclaimed mountaineer Marc Batard as the Chief Guest had the participation of famed mountaineers, representatives from the diplomatic communities in Geneva, the Swiss NGO working in Nepal, Nepalis living in Switzerland and the friends of Nepal. Mr Batard had ascended the Mount Everest without artificial oxygen within 24 hours in 1988.

During the programme, Nepali Ambassador Deepak Dhital said Switzerland was a long partner for development in Nepal and the relations between the two countries was in the public level too. He made aware the international community about the positive developments and tourism opportunities being created in Nepal.

“The adventure and eco-tourism has tremendous potential in Nepal,” he said, expecting continuous assistance from Swiss government for the reconstruction as it liberally assisted Nepal during the disaster last year.

On the occasion, Dr. Huber-Hortz reminded his interesting experiences during this ascent to the Mt Everest.

Similarly, the representatives from Nepal Tourism Board spread the message that Nepal was safe tourism destination even after the earthquake. RSS
