NIC, Governance Facility sign agreement for RTI promotion in Nepal

NICLalitpur / July 7: The National Information Commission (NIC) and an international non government organization, Governance Facility, have signed an agreement to promote right to information (RTI) in Nepal.

As per the agreement made Thursday, the Government Facility is to provide the economic and technical assistance worth Rs 81.5 million to the NIC. The assistance amount would be used to promote and implement RTI in various 33 districts and build the capacity of the NIC.

Secretary at the NIC, Sharad Raj Bist and Chief of the Governance Facility, Niels Hjortdal, signed the agreement paper amidst a programme in the capital city Thursday.

On the occasion, Chief Commissioner at NIC, Krishnahari Baskota, said the assistance amount would be utilized to bolster RTI practice in Nepal as the RTI has been accepted as the fundamental rights of the citizens.

Similarly, Commissioner Kiran Pokhrel said RTI is the pillar of democratic system, and its effective practice leads to enhancement of democracy.
