Cycling for a cause

kora-16July 09: The sixth edition of Kathmandu Kora is all set to roll on, this July 16. The annual event that ‘mixes fun and charity’ will see riders participating from different nationalities.

The event will host three riding challenges of 50km, 75km and 100km. Participants are allowed to take one out of the three challenges.

The Kora was initiated in 2011 by two cyclists, Maxim Jones and Shashank Lama, who were both 16 at that time. They took the challenge in the first ever Kora organised by Socialtours and Chain Bikes and raised awareness amongst the 35 riders. In the course they collected about half a million rupees in funds which they donated to a school and an orphanage in Kathmandu.

Ever since then, this annual event has been being organized for various social causes. This year’s event targets two main themes— ‘Medicare on wheels’ and ‘Help a child get education.’

The registration for the event is free, however, participants can voluntarily raise Rs 100 for each kilometer they ride as to support this year’s cause.

Registration forms are available at kora16.eventbrite.com. Source: http://www.myrepublica.com/news/1730
