Nepal Tourism Promotion Programme held in Lao PDR

Moun EverestKathmandu / July 12: The Embassy of Nepal, Bangkok organized a tourism promotion programme in Savannakhet, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, on 9 July 2016 with the slogan of ‘Nepal is beautiful: visit, and enjoy in Nepal’.

Mr. Khamphoune Touphaythoune, Vice Governor of Savannakhet province attended the programme representing the Government of Lao PDR. Representatives from outbound travel and tour operators, media houses and officials from Laotian Government attended the program.

Mr. Janga Bahadur Gurung, Counsellor/Deputy Chief of Mission, warmly welcomed all the guests to the programme. During his welcome remarks, briefly touching upon the bilateral relations between Nepal and Lao PDR, Mr. Gurung highlighted the potentialities and opportunities of tourism sectors in Nepal and urged all the media persons to disseminate information about the tourism attractions of Nepal, especially about Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha.

After his welcome remarks, Mr. Gurung made a detailed and comprehensive power-point presentation about the tourism attractions in Nepal. The presentation was focused on the tourism destinations in Nepal, tourism activities to be done in Nepal, world heritage sites in Nepal, bio-diversities, various kinds of adventurous tourism, information about the visa procedures, etc. Many attractive pictures were also included in the power-point presentation to show the natural beauty and adventurous tourism activities of Nepal.

A video presentation about Lumbini, birth place of Lord Buddha, was also made in the program. Tourism promotion materials such as framed photos of Maya Devi Temple of Lumbini, Mount Everest and Baudha Stupa along with posters of Mt. Everest and Lumbini, and CD/DVD and brochures on major tourism attraction of Nepal prepared by Nepal Tourism Board were distributed to all guests.

Delivering a statement, Vice Governor Mr. Khamphoune Touphaythoune mentioned about the commonalities between the two countries such as LLDCs, LDCs, peace loving countries, etc., and thanked the Embassy of Nepal for organizing the program and providing the opportunities to know about Nepal, tourism attractions in Nepal and Lumbini, birth place of Lord Buddha.

The programme is expected to have further contributed to promote tourism of Nepal among Laotian people, according to a press release issued om July 11 by the Embassy of Nepal, Bangkok. RSS
