Writ against surrogacy cancelled

Kathmandu / July 14: The Supreme Court has repealed the writ petition filed against surrogacy.

A division bench of Chief Justice Sushila Karki and Justice Govind Kumar Upadhyay cancelled the writ petition filed by advocate Pushpa Raj Pandeya on Thursday, according to SC Joint Spokesperson Bishworaj Poudel.

Last September advocate Pandey had filed the writ petition against surrogacy arguing that there was not any law about this in Nepal and the hospitals could not practice it as an industry of producing children from rented mothers.

In response to this, the SC said it was not necessary to speak anything on it because the government has already repealed the acts on it. With the cancellation of acts on these, the practice of surrogacy has been banned in Nepal. RSS
