Solar lamps at homes of disappearing Raji people

solar panelDhangadhi / July 15: The homes of disappearing Raji community in Tikapur, Kailali now are seen illuminated with solar lamps. Despite being town dwellers, they have not yet received basic electricity facility to light up their house.

Though it has been number of years since electricity poles along with wire erected nearby Raji settlement at Tikapur municipality-9, Rajipur, they could not take advantage of the facility due to financial problem.

“The electric wires were extended nearby the settlement some 20 years ago but we could not install electricity at our homes”, said local Chitra Bahadur Raji, adding that, “Now we are happy for solar light to be set up at our homes under the Local Adaptation Plan (LAPA)) for Climate Change Programme”.

Out of total 25 households of Raji people at Rajipur, solar lamps have been installed in eight houses while preparation is underway to set up the lights in remaining households.

LAPA District Coordinator Santosh Khanal shared that solar lamps have been so far installed in 405 households which had no electrification before. He added this was done in course of the implementation of LAPA project in Kailali
