Barahi temple’s renovation starts

myagdi_districtMyagdi / July 17: The famed Nangi Barahi temple, located at Ramche VDC – 2, is undergoing a renovation at the initiation of the locals.

The temple which is more than 200 years old will be renovated with the support of fund raised by local residents and Ramche villagers living abroad, Nangi Barahi Conservation Committee’s Karna Bahadur Khoraja said.

The Committee has estimated the total cost for renovation at Rs 1.6 million, he added. The locals were facing difficulty is carrying out religious performances as the old temple remained in a decrepit state. The villagers also collected Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 from each household as part of the fund raising campaign.

The renovation works have started with an aim to complete the work within a month. The temple will now have three separate entrances for women, men and for sacrificial offerings of animals.

The temple sees major ritualistic performances and offerings on the day of Janai Purnima whereas the flow of devotees at other time remains constant. The people believe that paying homage to the temple will help them fulfil their wishes.

A local campaigner, Laxman Garjuba, shared that initiation will be taken for conservation of the Nangi Barahi lake once the temple renovation completes. He added that a trek route would also be developed soon. RSS
