Authorities remove shanty town from forest area

community forestKanchanpur / July 17: The families that had set up an illegal settlement by encroaching upon the Navadurga Woman Community Forest at Sundarphant of Krishnapur Municipality – 1 were removed on Saturday.

A total of 35 families living in the shanty town within the forest area were removed. A joint team constituting of community forest consumers, forest rangers from Sector Forest Office, Area Police Office and Progressive Youth Club representatives removed the families.

Community Forest Chairman, Tej Bahadur Chaudhary, confirmed the removal of the people who had built shacks for settlement in the forest area.

“They neglected out repeated call to not encroach the forest area, so we had to raze down their huts,” he said. They had encroached upon almost seven bighas of land.

Two days ago forest officials and forest rangers had removed 15 families that had built illegal shacks in the area. The community forest established in 1992 (2049 BS) has more than 800 consumers. RSS
