Swollen Bhotekoshi continues to wreak havoc in Sindhupalchowk

Tamor LandslideMelamchi / July 19: Floodwaters from the Bhotekoshi River have so far swept away 79 houses in Tatopani, Liping and Barhabise areas of Sindhupalchowk district.

The Bhotekoshi river flood caused by heavy showers since July 5 continues to terrorize the normal life with eroding land on its banks and washing way houses. So far the flooded river swept away 43 cemented houses and 36 huts in the flood-affected areas. Earlier, a canteen of the Tatotapani Customs Office and two tippers parked on its premises were swept away by floodwaters. A building of the Mansarobar Boarding School, Tatopani was completely destroyed in the disaster. Electricity and telephone services in Tatopani, Liping and Barhabise have remained disconnected as power poles are down.

Some 30 kilometer- section of the Araniko Highway suffered land erosion in multiple locations. The landslides triggered by the torrential rains have blocked the highway in multiple sections. District Police Office Sindhupalchowk’s Police Inspector Yograj Khatiwada said they are effortful to clear the landslide debris and reopen the highway. RSS
