Report on National Mass Media Policy-2073 submitted to PM

Media ReportKathmandu, July 20: The high-level Committee on Media has submitted its report on National Mass Media Policy-2073 to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli here on Wednesday.

The Committee which took five months to prepare the report was handed over to PM Oli by the Committee’s Chairperson Kashiraj Dahal amid a programme at the former’s official residence at Baluwatar in the capital city.

The report has incorporated transparency of investment in media house, rights of the working journalists, regulating of the media among others in its 100 points recommendations.

The Committee in its report has proposed establishment of advertisement council, National Mass Media Authority, Public Service Broadcasters Nepal and reforms in role and structure of Press Council among others.

Similarly, the Committee recommends forming National Mass Media Academy, Nepal Mass Media Museum to document important materials related to media and communications in the country and National Mass Media Training Foundation for capacity building of the media persons.

Also recommended by the Committee in its report is the transformation of Nepal television and Radio Nepal into Public Service Broadcasting Institution.

“We have also recommended the effective implementation of the Working Journalists Act to secure the welfare of working journalists and pressed for the physical security of the media houses,” shared Committee Chairperson Dahal.

The 21-member Committee earlier on May 23 had submitted a preliminary report on the same to Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai.

Receiving the report, PM Oli expressed his commitment to take into consideration the recommendations furnished by the Committee and bring into effect the National Mass Media Policy-2073. RSS
