Bio-gas plant from hospital waste
Chitwan / July 22: A bio-gas plant has been set up from waste produced from Bharatpur Hospital in Chitwan.
The Hospital sources said that the plant has been installed to use perishable wastes for generating energy. The obstetric wastes produced after child delivery and other non-hazardous wastes are used to operate the bio-gas plant in the hospital.
It may be noted that daily average 45 pregnant mothers are receiving child delivery services in the Bharatpur Hospital. The placenta, human organs, flesh pieces and other perishable wastes produced during obstetric service are the sources of plant operation.
The National Bio-Gas Construction and Service Pvt Ltd has set up the bio-gas plant at the cost of Rs 490,990 in the hospital.
The gas generated from the plant has been used to boil water and sterilize medical accessories in the operation theatre, said Medical Superintendant of Bharatpur Hospital Dr Rudfra Prasad Marasini.
“We can monthly save up to Rs 15,000 from the operation of bio-gas on one side and on the other it offers a sustainable way to manage hospital wastes”, Dr Marasini further said, adding, “It has also prevented bad smells emanating from wastes in the Hospital”. RSS
