Some 1,000 monasteries await maintenance and renovation

MonasteryKathmandu / July 23: Some 1,000 monasteries of the country damaged in Gorkha earthquake have demanded financial assistance for maintenance and renovation task.

According to Monastery Development Committee, formed to carry out study and protection of all monasteries of the country, ancient monasteries of mountainous and hilly areas have also registered application demanding financial support.

The Committee has demanded around Rs 90 million for the reconstruction and renovation task of more than 1,000 monasteries.

According to the Committee, there are some 1,300 monasteries in the country.

Committee Chairman Karma Legse said that although the Committee demanded such amount after holding discussion with the National Reconstruction Authority in different phases, it has not received the amount yet. RSS
