Ghintang Ghisi Dance starts from today

Dance BhaktapurBhaktapur / Aug 18: The locals in Bhaktapur in association with the Guthi Sansthan Office in Bhaktapur performed Ghintang Ghisi Dance on the occasion of Janai Purnima.

The dance which started from the Bhakapur Durbar Square today noon will come to an end by evening after the dancers tow around the City shaking their legs.

According to Ghuthi Sansthan Office, Bhaktapur Chief Lekhnath Sapkota the Dance is the harbinger of Gai Jatra for the festival is believed to start with the performance of this dance.

As per the legend, the Dance performed by youngsters should be watched by the elderly, shared Kumar Chawal of Bhaktapur Municipality. Chawal added, “The local elderly throng the thoroughfares to catch a glimpse of the dance for the belief that watching the dance brings them good luck.”

The Dance, including parody, is a distinct feature of the Gai Jatra festival in Bhaktapur and is performed until Gai Jaitra festival begins. RSS
