Traditional Mahakali dance after seven years’ gap

Dance BhaktapurBhaktapur / Aug 19: The traditional Mahakali dance, which was not performed at Nagadesh of Madhyapur Thimi for the past seven years, is taking stage this year.

The performance of dance was put off for years due to financial crunch to conduct such event every year. Local youths took the initiative to revive the tradition which was almost in non-existence.

The dance this year will start from August 20. The dance is to be performed in different places of Nagdesh during four evenings continuously following the Gaijatra Day.

It requires a budget of around Rs 1 million to conduct the performance of the dance – which is the Malla-era popular cultural dance.

The performance of traditional dance has been procrastinated for the past seven years with no funding from any agency for the same, said Secreatry of Nagadesh Cultural Pucha, Binod Konju.

He shared that they are resuming the dance this year while raising financial and material support from local people and organizations, RSS
