AFC scraps appeal of players charged of match fixing

Kathmandu / Aug 25: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has turned down the appeal five Nepali players made against the lifelong ban on them for their involvement in match fixing.

The meeting of the appeal committee of the AFC on Thursday scrapped the appeal made by then captain Sagar Thapa, Bikash Singh Chhetri, Ritesh Thapa, Sandip Rai and then coach Anjan KC, said the AFC in a press release upholding its previous decision.

The AFC had banned them from playing after they were arrested by the Metropolitan Crime Division of Nepal Police last year.

With the repeal of the appeal, the prospects of their returning to the game has been shattered forever.

As per the police investigation, they had involved in the match fixing during the football matches played under Merdeka Cup in Afghanistan in 2008, SAFF Championship of 2009, and the friendly match with Malaysia in 2011.

Later they were released on bail after the Special Court decision. RSS
