Chitwan’s Tulasa bags International Award
Ratnanagar (Chitwan), Oct 15: Tulasa Gyawali of Chitwan has won the WWSF Prize for Women’s creativity in rural life.
Registrar of the Tribhuvab University Prof (Dr) Sudha Sharma presented the international award to Gyawali at a function held in Kirtipur in the capital today coinciding with the International Day of Rural Women.
The Women’s World Summit Foundation (WWSF) based in Switzerland has awarded Gyawali through the Local Research Promotion Nepal, an organisation under the Natural History Museum. The award carries a purse of one thousand US Dollars (Rs 106,000).
Gyawali has successfully carried out a model project in Bharatpur of Chitwan, growing vegetables on rooftop using the household waste. Awarded since 1994 by WWSF Women’s World Summit Foundation- an international, non-profit, humanitarian NGO, serving the implementation of women and children’s rights and the UN development agenda – the Prize (US$ 1000 per laureate) honors women and women’s groups around the world exhibiting exceptional creativity, courage and commitment for the improvement of the quality of life in rural communities (413 prizes awarded so far).
The Prize aims to draw international attention to laureates’ contributions to sustainable development, food security and peace, thus generating recognition and support for their initiatives and projects, according to WWSF. RSS
