World’s biggest thangka painting to be displayed in Lumbini

LumbiniRupandehi / Nov 23: The world’s biggest thangka painting is set to be put on a display in Lumbini, the origin of world peace for being the birthplace of Gautam Buddha on November 25-26.

The thangka weighs 1,905 kilograms and is 50 meters in width and 70 meters long. Having completed in six years in 2000, it portrays the teachings of Gautam Buddha.

The information was shared at a press conference organised by the federation in the district on Tuesday.

The Nepal Buddhist Federation, Lumbini will organise the exhibition on the occasion of the establishment of 60 years of bilateral ties between Nepal and Japan.

The effort aims to spread message of peace and harmony to the world, said the organiser.

The painting was already put on a display in Kathmandu on October 5 and 6, Yokohama and Hiroshima and Nagoya in Japan in 2002 and 2005 respectively, New Delhi in India in 2003 and Mongolia in 2004. RSS
