Directives to stop Nepalis going to Malaysia for employment from being fleeced

Labor, Foreign EmploymentKathmandu / Nov 24: The International Relations and Labour Committee under the Legislature- Parliament Thursday directed the government to take effective measures to stop the Nepalis going for foreign employment to Malaysia from being cheated, and also to take action against the wrongdoers after investigation.

After discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Bimalendra Nidhi and other high officials of the government in its meeting, the committee instructed the authorities to stop the cheating taking place in the name of immigration security clearance, one-stop centre and other such requirements by the so-called Nepali agents at the airport and companies in Malaysia through diplomatic initiatives.

The meeting chaired by the committee Chair Prabhu Saha directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take the necessary initiatives for alleviating the trouble faced by the Nepali workers in the name of such provisions by holding diplomatic negotiations with the Malaysian government.

Likewise, the committee has instructed the Ministry of Home Affairs to stop the cheating taking place in the name of immigration security clearance, to carry out investigation and to take action against the culprits. The committee has also asked the Ministry to take action against the employees of the Company Registrar’s Office who issued permission to open the Immigration Security Clearance’s Office in Nepal without taking permission from the Ministry concerned.

In the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Nidhi underlined the need of integrated initiatives and coordination among all the bodies of the government. He stated that they would reach to a concrete decision on the issue after discussing with the Prime Minister. He gave assurances that action would be taken immediately on the issues falling under purview of the Home Ministry after investigation.

Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi said although they have written to the Malaysian government regarding the Immigration Security Centre and the cheating on Nepali workers time and again, there was no response and efforts have been made to seek solution to the problem through a minister level visit.

Home Secretary Lokdarshan Regmi said that the Ministry was capable of taking action to stop the cheating taking place on the Nepali workers.

MPs speaking in the meeting had stressed on appropriate coordination, accountability and fulfillment of responsibility among the related bodies of the government on a serious issue of the Nepalis facing various troubles at the hands of swindlers. RSS
