Kathmandu / Nov 28: The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), Nepal is preparing to expedite further investigation into conflict-era complaints by setting up one each province office in all seven provinces.

Since the 90 per cent of its internal works have been executed, the TRC is going at the local level for additional investigation into the complaints, according to the TRC member Manchala Jha.

The TRC, formed in February last year to look into conflict-era cases and resolve them judiciously, has so far received a total of 57,753 cases.

The budget for the same is sought from the Ministry of Finance and as soon as it is released, the Commission will spring into action toward this end, shared TRC member Jha.

According to the Commission, a three-member committee, comprising an expert, an expert in local government body and a Joint- Attorney, will be formed in coordination of Joint –Attorney to investigate into complaints registered by conflict victims and their families and kin.

While the Commission’s two-year term is coming to an end shortly, it has faced several hitches for its smooth operation in lack of necessary amendment in the Enforced Disappearances Inquiry, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act, 2071 upon which it is formed. RSS
