Ministry preparing strategy for development of sports: Minister Shreepaili; Team for U-19 Asia Cup announced

Cricket groundNepalgunj / Dec 5: Minister for Sports, Daljit Shreepaili, has said that the Ministry has been preparing strategy for the development and expansion of the sports sector.

Inaugurating the Regional Sports Championship organised by the Mid-Western Regional Sports Development Committee here on Monday, Minister Shreepaili said that environment conducive for investment in sports sector has now been created.

A total of 800 athletes would compete in 10 categories including Cricket, Football, Taekwondo and Badminton in the Championship, according to the Committee Vice-Chairperson Narendra Thapa.

The Championship was organised to select the athletes for Seventh National Sports Championship to be organised in eastern region.

Team for U-19 Asia Cup announced

Meanwhile, a 19-member cricket team is representing Nepal in the Under-19 Asia Cup to be held in Sri Lanka this month.

The team playing for the country in the tournament was announced by a selection committee comprising International Cricket Council’s Development Officer for the Asia region Venkatapathy Raju, Nepal’s U-19 main coach Jagat Tamata and coach Binod Das.

Sandip Lamichhane is the captain of the team that includes Abinash Karna, Asif Sheikh, Dipendra Singh Airi, Sandip Sunar, Rabindra Jung Shahi, Aadil Khan, Bhim Sarki, Anil Kumar Shaha, Pawan Sarraff, Suwarnakar Uraw, Kamal Singh Airi, Nandan Yadav, Prakash KC and Rohit Kumar Poudel.

Shahab Alam, Kishor Mahato, Bikram Bhusal and Sushant Thapa are the extra players. RSS
