NT officially launches 4G mobile service

nt-4gKathmandu / Jan 1: Nepal Telecom (NT) has launched 4G (fourth generation) wireless mobile phone service from Sunday.

The Company which has been providing the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) services for 18 years has brought the new service based on Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard. The service in the beginning is available only in the Kathmandu and Pokhara Valleys.

The company said the 4G service was launched in these two valleys for the first round, bearing in mind the interests and necessity of customers. The service is equipped with high-speed internet facility.

Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Kumar Karki launched the service amidst a programme here Sunday. On the occasion, he said the launching of 4G services when Nepal which was yet to prove it strong in the use of information technology was really a good starting.

Secretary at the Ministry of Information and Communications and Company Board of Directors Chair Mahendra Man Gurung said the service was brought by adopting new change in the IT.

Company General Manager Kamini Rajbhandari said the Company expected to gain more market share and witness a remarkable increase in revenue collection.

Customers are requested to press# 444 * to connect the service into their 4G mobile phone. However, special SIM Card is required to use the service. Presently the service is available only for GSM Post Paid Mobile Phone.

The 4G SIM cards will be distributed from NTC offices at Chabahil, Hattigauda, Gongabu, Sundhara, Chhauni, Babarmahal, Jawalakhel, Sajha Building, Thimi, Bhaktapur and Pokhara office ( Mahendrapool). RSS
