Parliamentary committee directs Transport Ministry to complete under-construct bridges on time

ParliamentKathmandu / Feb 1: The Development Committee under Legislature-Parliament has directed the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport to complete under-construct bridges under the strategic road network project within the stipulated time.

Today’s meeting of the committee has also directed concerned authorities to blacklist those contractors who have failed to complete bridges on time, following consultations with the ministry and the Department of Roads.

At the meeting, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Ramesh Lekhak said the move follows the government’s focus on the trend of failing to complete large-scale bridge and physical infrastructure projects on time and with quality.

“There are legal problems to blacklist the contractors failing to complete projects on time. The due process will move forwards after clearing these problems,” he said, adding that barriers (if any), be it natural or human, to complete projects on time would be removed.

Saying work on infrastructure construction is underway in cooperation with the National Planning Commission and Finance Ministry, he said the capital expenditure of the ministry has reached 25 percent and it aims to increase the figure to 40 percent within next one month. RSS
