Committee formed to prepare report on shift of vulnerable settlement

structiKathmandu / Feb 3: After 22 months of the Gorkha Earthquake, a committee has been constituted to prepare a report on the shift of thee settlements put at risk by the disaster to safer places.

The 42nd meeting of the Steering Committee of the Nepal Reconstruction Authority (NRA) held today under the chair of its Executive Officer Prof Dr Govinda Raj Pokhrel formed the committee headed by executive member Dhruba Prasad Sharma.

The nine-member committee comprises NRA departmental chiefs and representatives from the Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Land Reform and Management and Ministry of General Administration, according to NRA Spokesperson Yamlal Bhusal. It is mandated to submit a report within a week.

Likewise another committee coordinated by NRA executive member is in place that is expected to take measures for the protection of the originality of archeologically important heritages during the reconstruction works and for the management of traditional construction materials.

The Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation, Timber Corporation of Nepal, Federation of Community Forest Users Nepal and private sector are requested to ensure smooth supply of timber for the purpose of reconstruction works. The request was in a response to increasing public complaints about the shortage of wooden construction materials in the rebuilding efforts. RSS
