Nepali poet makes presence felt at int’l poetry fest

Kathmandu / Feb 27: Senior poet Tulsa Diwasa has participated in the 13th Granada International Poetry Festival where he recited poetry and gave a talk on cultural heritage.

Marathon poetry reading, street poetry recitation, talk shows on various topics, interaction, book exhibition, folk art and cultural shows were the highlights of the poetry festival participated by distinguished poets from some 170 countries.

Talking to media after returning from Granada, poet Diwasa said his poems were translated into Spanish, English and other languages and read out on the occasion. He was the only participant from Nepal at the event.

He added that his proposal of making Granada the capital of world poetry has been included in the Declaration issued by the poetry conference on its conclusion.

According to him, the festival focused on issues as human rights, human welfare and sustainability. He further shared that poetry recitation was done calling for an end to bigotry, violence and discrimination from the world.

Discussions were also held on the topics of gender, equality, youth education, sustainable development and freedom of expression, he added.

The senior poet, noting that poetry was the linguistic form of highest art of expression, underlined the need of making poetry as a means of mental and intellectual change for sustainable development rather than limiting it only as a subject of mere entertainment and self-satisfaction. RSS
