Kenya edges Nepal by five wickets in ICC World League Championship

CricketKathmandu / March 11: Nepal lost its first match to Kenya by five wickets in ICC World Cricket League Championship at TU cricket ground on Saturday.

The 50-over match was reduced to 38-over first and then to 29 overs under the D/L method due to disruption caused by frequent rainfall. According to the system, Nepal set a target of 104 runs which the Kenya met at 25th overs. With this win, Kenya has secured two scores in the championship keeping it chance for selection in ICC Cricket World Cup to be held in Bangladesh.

For Kenya, RR Patel scored 34 runs (not out) off 52 balls that included 3 fours, CO Obuya hit 24 runs off 32 balls with 3 fours and Gurdeep Singh hit 12 runs (not out) off 19 balls with one four. Other batsmen could not score double digit run.

Sagar Pun and Sandeep Lamichchane took two wickets of Kenya, each giving away 8 and 21 runs respectively.

Earlier, sent in to bat after losing the toss, home team Nepal made 112 runs losing 8 wickets in 36 overs following the rain.

In the match played at the TU cricket ground, captain Gyanendra Mall scored highest 27 runs including five fours off 35 balls, Deependra Sing Airee contributed 19 runs off 56 balls, while Shakti Gauchan made 18 runs not out off 24 balls with 2 fours.RSS
