Constitution amendment a conspiracy to divide Hill and Tarai, claims UML Chair Oli; UML supports over Rs 500,000 to the family of Gautam

Dhangadi / March 16: CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has claimed that the issue of endorsement of the constitution amendment bill being raised by the Madhesh-centric political parties was a pretext to create division between Hill and Tarai.

Addressing the assembly of leader, cadres and locals at Dhangadi today as part of UML’s Mechi-Mahakali campaign, leader Oli reiterated that it was a fallacy to say that elections could not be held without endorsement of constitution amendment.

The nation-wide two-week long campaign of the major opposition-UML- is an election drive aimed at strengthening unity, sovereignty and social harmony.

The former Prime Minister spoke of the need to usher the country in the path of prosperity by stressing on self-reliance and independence. He further claimed that the foreign forces were on the prowl to create political instability, to foul in implementation of the new constitution.

He was of the opinion that anti-national agents were after the UML to sabotage its nationalistic drives and deeds by attempting to disrupt its campaign.

Similarly, UML Vice-Chairs Bam Dev Gautam and Bhim Bahadur Rawal univocally voiced that the aspiration of public in Tarai, Mountain and Hill is peace and unity and vowed to foul the conspiracy against the country.

Both reaffirmed that the UML shared a cordial tie with India, China and the USA and other foreign countries.

Local election at any cost says UML Chair Oli

Meanwhile, addressing the closing ceremony of the UML’s Mechi-Mahakali campaign, the nation-wide election drive aimed at strengthening unity, sovereignty and social harmony, at Bhimduttanagar in Kanchanpur on Thursday, leader Oli also claimed that the conspiracy was being hatched not to implement the new constitution.

The former Prime Minister argued that it is imperative for the UML to assume leadership of the government to strengthen national unity and ensure development in the country.

Blaming the Indian side for their subjugating behaviour towards the Nepalis in the bordering area, he asserted that India should make an apology for Govinda Gautam’s death. Gautam of Punarbash in Kanchanpur district had died in the firing from the Indian border security personnel at Ananda Bazar in the district on March 9.

Similarly, UML leader and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said that the constitutional crisis would loom if the three-tier elections are not held as per the schedule.

He decried over the cavalier attitude of the government for not diplomatically dealing with the incident of Gautam’s killing by the Indian border security personnel after a violent dispute ensued between the locals and them concerning the construction of a culvert at Ananda Bazar bordering India.

Likewise, UML General-Secretary Ishwor Pokharel opined that the constitution amendment was not necessary for now. He expressed his doubt over the intention of the ruling parties -the Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Centre- for pressing the constitution amendment issue.

On the occasion, UML handed over Rs 500,000 to the family of Gautam and a laptop to the daughter of Gautam in recognition of his courage to stand against the Indian side’s autocracy. RSS
