Human Rights Film Fest kicks off

PARIVARA-17032017085835-1000x0Kathmandu / Mar 17: The fifth edition of Nepal Human Rights International Film Festival kicked off at Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu on Thursday, March 16. The opening day of the fest saw the screening of In Search of Devaki, a film by Devaki Bista.

The four-day fest, organised by Human Rights Film Center, is themed Everyone Has Rights and will see the screening of more than 90 films from 38 different countries along with panel discussions.

The second day of the fest will feature movies like At Eye Level, Ma Haina Ma and The Sad Monk, along with a master-class session by acclaimed director Tsering Rhitar Sherpa and a panel discussion with Abhi Subedi, Ramyata Limbu and Anup Subedi.

Similarly, the third day of the fest will see the screening of Lurna, The Shovel Man, Abuses, and Pearl Island along with a talk by Ahmed Muztaba Jamal on the topic How to be Organised and How to Emphasise on the Aesthetics of Film Culture and a panel discussion on Internationalisation of Nepali Cinema with Nabin Subba, Kshitiz Adhikari and Ananda Ghimire. The final day of the fest, on Sunday, will feature movies such as Urmila, Fleeing Oblivion, and War Crime.

The festival which will feature a wide spectrum of fiction, documentary, and narratives from around the world will also award movies under various categories including The Best Documentary, The Best Fiction Film, in national and international categories.

The jury for this year’s iteration are veteran Nepali filmmaker Tulsi Ghimire, pioneer in Indian parallel cinema, Girish Kasaravalli, flim critic from Bangladesh Amed Muztaba Zamal and Dutch filmmaker Clementine Edreeven. Source: The Kathmandu Post
