Power worth Rs 15 billion to be imported

ElectricityKathmandu / April 4: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has shared that power worth Rs 15 billion would be imported to liberate the country from load-shedding.

The NEA has so far imported electricity worth Rs 9.68 billion in the first nine months of the fiscal year 2073-74 BS. It is projected that additional power worth Rs 6 billion would be bought from outside the country.

At a press conference organized here on Tuesday, NEA Chief Executive Officer Kul Man Ghising informed that power worth around Rs 14.9 billion was brought during the last fiscal year.

The power import has been made for time being to avert power crisis in the country and the NEA would be in a position to export power with the completion of the under-construction power projects.

The import of power seems to be high this year than it was in the last fiscal, Ghising shared. The power production last year was 5,000 MW while it would rise to 6,000 MW this year.

Likewise, the NEA sources said the nationwide electricity leakage and theft prevention campaign has resultantly dropped power leakage by 4 per cent. With this, the NEA was able to generate revenue of Rs 1.2 billion.

Executive Director Ghising further informed that the tasks have been devised in a way to reduce power leakage by 5 per cent till the end of the current fiscal year. RSS
