SC stays Sharma’s case

Choodamani SharmaKathmandu / July 19: The Supreme Court (SC) today has issued a stay order on the corruption case against suspended Director General of the Inland Revenue Department, Chudamani Sharma, filed at the Special Court.

A divisional bench of Justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR and Prakash Raut ordered the Special Court to put the case on hold and send it to full justice, according to SC Spokesperson Mahendranath Upadhyay.

“As some legal complications have arisen in the case relating to Chudamani Sharma, the divisional bench Justice duo ordered to send the case to SC’s full bench”, said Spokesperson Upadhyay.

Spouse of detained Sharma, Kalpana Sharma, on July 11 had filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court that has named the Special Court and the CIAA as defendants, and has demanded his release from detention claiming it unlawful.

Sharma was arrested by the anti-graft body CIAA on June 2 for his alleged involvement in helping telecommunications service provider NCell exempt Rs 21 billion capital gains tax. RSS
