NHRC praises EC’s effort to ban use of children during poll

NHRCKathmandu / Sept. 15: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has lauded the efforts of the Election Commission (EC) to ban the use of children during elections as a positive move.

A meeting held today at the EC between NHRC Spokesperson Mohna Ansari, Election Commissioners Ila Sharma and Ishwori Prasad Paudyal also stressed the need for commitment from governmental and non-governmental human rights organizations to defend human rights.

The meeting focused on efforts made by the EC so as to safeguard human rights during election campaigns, and the polls in view of the third phases of local elections scheduled in Province 2 on September 18.

Security of voters, election candidates, and employees to be deployed in the polls was also discussed, said EC’s Spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal. RSS
