Challenging EC decision, Shivpujan Raya moves SC

Supreme CourtKathmandu / Nov 29: Challenging the decision of the Election Commission (EC) to cancel his candidacy, Shivpujan Raya Yadav who’s contesting the polls from Constituency 4, Sarlahi District, moved the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

Yadav was the parliamentary first-past-the-post candidate from CPN (Maoist Center). The EC had annulled his candidacy citing that a passport forgery case in which Yadav was involved in is still pending at the Special Court.

Claiming that EC’s decision violated his fundamental right, he has sought an interim order from the apex court to stay the decision. The EC, District Election Office Sarlahi and Ganesh Prasad Singh who had challenged his candidacy have been made defendants in the writ petition.
