37 metric tonnes of garbage managed under clean-up campaigns

GarbageKathmandu / Feb 03: Around 37 metric tonnes of solid waste have been managed under clean-up campaigns of different rivers and ring road in Kathmandu valley today.

Twelve tonnes of garbage were picked up from Bagmati river area in Shankhamul under the Bagmati Clean-up Mega Campaign that entered its 247th week today.

Mala Kharel, one of the campaigner said that the event saw participation of more than 1,000 people from different walks of life, including the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Telecom.

Similarly, Uttam Pudasaini, Chair of Pudasaini Maitri Samaj said,”One metric tonne of solid waste were picked up from Gothatar bridge area as part of Guheshwari Bagmati clean-up campaign that made it to its 208th week.”

Another two metric tonnes of garbage were managed from the area between Old Baneshwar to Ratopul under 203rd week of Rudramati clean-up campaign. Two metric tonnes of garbage was collected from Manamaiju area under 175th week of Bishnumati clean-up campaign.

Also, 15 metric tonnes of garbage were picked up today from the area between Gopi Krishna Hall and Sukedhara under the Ring Road Campaign that made it to its 43rd week. More than 600 people from different walks of life participated in the cleaning initiative.

Among the participants were former chair of the Interim Council of Ministers Khilraj Regmi, Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Bikram Bahadur Thapa, AIG Jaya Bahadur Chand, among other high level government officials participated in the clean-up campaign. RSS
