Subsidized kiwi saplings distributed

Kiwi-FarmingNuwakot / Feb 11: Belkotgadhi Municipality has distributed saplings of kiwi in subsidy aiming to attract farmers towards kiwi farming.

The saplings of kiwi have been distributed to the farmers at 75 per cent in grants. Senior Horticulture Development Officer at the District, Chhabi Lal Sharma, said the fruit is very useful to diabetes and blood-pressure patients.

The municipality has planned to distribute a total of 2,200 saplings in the municipality. Mayor of Belkotgadhi Municipality Rajendra Raman Khanal said that kiwi cultivation has been expanded at upper belt of Ward No. 1, 9, 11 and 4 of the municipality. The municipality has forwarded the programme allocating Rs 300,000 this year for kiwi cultivation. Normally, kiwi is sold at Rs 350 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, an agro-product expo organised at Shivapuri Rural Municipality-8 in the district has been concluded. The expo was organised with an objective to marketing the local agro products.

Various agro products including cauliflower, tomato, cabbage, ginger, banana and sugarcane were kept in the expo. On the occasion, ginger farmer Ram Kumar Thapa was honoured with a plastic tunnel as the best commercial farmer. RSS
